Please bring a vegetarian dish for the potluck dinner.
There is no suggested donation. If you are able, please bring a monetary offering for our teachers. This offering will go directly to the teachers themselves and helps support their enlightened activities throughout the year.
Please join us for a festive evening of practicing, singing, and making aspirations and offerings of dance, poetry, and song for the Year of the Water Dragon!
Losar is a ten-day period of celebration that ushers in the Tibetan New Year.
Losar is a time for fresh starts and purification, personally and in the world that surrounds us.
Losar is also a time to come together as a sangha, share our heartfelt aspirations, and honor our teachers.
We will practice, share a
potluck meal (please bring a vegetarian dish), watch a video talk
from Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, and make offerings to each other and
to the teachers of our lineage.
It is a Nalandabodhi tradition to make monetary offerings to our main teachers: His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa, Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche, and Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. There will be a bowl and envelopes available for collecting any donation you wish to make.
Last year many people were curious about why Nalandabodhi celebrates Losar when we do. Here is an explation by Mitra Tyler Dewar:
"There are two main systems of Tibetan astrology. The most popular system, and the one historically used by the Central Tibetan Administration, is called Phukluk. The one used by the Karma Kagyu order of Tibetan Buddhism, and the one relied upon primarily by the Nalandabodhi sangha, is called Tsurluk. "Tsur"luk is the system that was developed at the time of the 3rd Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje, at Tsurphu Monastery, the main seat of the Karmapa lineage. It is celebrated and widely acknowledged as a very accurate astrological calculation system."
