Nalanda West was established 2003 in Seattle as the headquarters for Nalandabodhi. It is centrally located in the Fremont section of Seattle. The namesake of Nalanda West is Nalanda University in India, which was the first international residential university in the world with more than 10,000 students. Nalanda West has been established to perpetuate Nalanda University's authentic, unbroken lineage of skillful methods for realizing the awakened state of mind. The Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India, is the official seat of His Holiness Karmapa.
