Nalandabodhi Study Curriculum
Nalandabodhi, under the guidance of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, has developed a comprehensive course of study which presents the complete journey of the three-yana path: Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana. The core materials of the study curriculum are drawn primarily from the oral teachings of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. It is recommended that the classes are to be taken in the order noted below, and completion of the preceeding classes are a foundation for understanding the following classes. For Nalandabodhi students, completion of the study program will be a prerequisite for other studies and practices being introduced by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche.
Hinayana I: Hinayana View
Hinayana II: Hinayana Path and Fruition
Mahayana I: Mahayana View
Mahayana II: Mahayana Path and Fruition
Vajrayana: View of DevotionOther classes
From time to time we offer additional classes, e.g. Six stages of Shamatha, Progressive Stages of Emptiness etc.Class Structure
The instructors are senior students and the classes are presentation of the written material with discussion. Each semester will usually include an oral exam and a written final exam.Exams
Taking these exams is a requirement for a successful completion of the class. However, exams are not graded and should not be understood as an exam in the conventional way. Exams here are a means to sharpen our focus on our study and increase our knowledge. They are often appreciated for this effect only after the fact - when a student realizes that he or she has taken another step on the path and shifted into another level of understanding. Exams are based on the study questions from the source book or those generated in class. During the oral exam students take turns asking and answering questions in a cooperative group environment. The final written exam is passed out at the final class, and turned in within a week.Costs: Free for Nalandabodhi members; $5/class for non-members (registration for whole class required). Textbooks need to be purchased separately.
Place: All classes will be held at the Dzogchen Cottage, 280 Devon Pl. Boulder.
Upcoming classes: See Current Events or Calendar for upcoming classes.
